Updates on Utah's wildlife from the DWR

During the recent legislative session, additional funding was allocated to keep quagga and zebra mussels from spreading from Lake Powell to other local waterbodies. Here are five changes this year to help prevent quagga mussels from spreading.
There are currently 18 wildlife species in Utah listed on the federal endangered species list, with 10 listed as endangered and eight listed as threatened. Of those, here are three success stories.
In order to prevent the spread of these invasive species throughout Utah, several of the annual mandatory inspection stations have opened for the busy summer season. There will be more inspection stations this year than in past years.
May is a great time to head out with your fishing pole because the ice has melted off most of the reservoirs, and the water is starting to warm up. If you are itching to get out on the water and want to catch a lot of fish, here are a few fun local spots that have large populations of fish managed for high catch rates.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is asking for the public's feedback on a new proposal that would simplify the process allowing people to collect, possess and breed non-venomous native reptiles and amphibians caught in the wild. DWR is also proposing new wild turkey transplant sites for the next five years.
If you own a large cabin cruiser or houseboat that has been in a slip at Lake Powell for more than a couple of weeks, you will need to do some advance planning and preparation before you can take your boat out for an afternoon on the lake, especially if it will be leaving from Page, Arizona or Big Water, Utah.
